About Jason Tate

Parent Education Network

My general duties at Parent Education Network (PEN) include parent education on positive discipline techniques, youth development, client case management, outreach, and community linkages to services. I have worked with voluntary clients, as well as families and parents referred from Children’s Services Division (CPS), family court, and the Department of Behavioral Health.

As Lead Family Support Worker (FSW), I am responsible for agency and staff training, as well as program development. I have provided direct supervision to BSW interns from CSUC.

Young Parents Program - I provide case management, teach classes and facillitate support groups for young fathers and families.

In-Home Parent Education - I provide in-home parent education through contracts from the dept. of Behavioral Health and Children's Services Division.

Juvenile Hall – I co-facilitate a class taught at the Juvenile Hall, covering topics from anger management to goal setting, alcohol and drugs to healthy relationships.

Program Development – I was instrumental in the creation of EmPACT, a grant-funded program to support single parent headed households with adolescents and pre-adolescents. I was present through the program brainstorming, grant writing and scope of work, and finally I was responsible for the initial program design and implementation.

Parenting Classes – I was responsible for curriculum development and instruction in court mandated parenting classes.

Support Groups – I have led support groups for teen parents, single parents, fathers, and families.

IEBP – I have worked on contract with the Department of Behavioral Health as a Behavioral Coach for adolescents at risk.

I have staffed the “parent talkline” – a “warm line” devoted to linking families to services and answering parenting questions. I have been trained to work with crisis calls.

I have given numerous workshops and presentations to the community, on issues ranging from fatherhood to positive communication.

I have made several appearances on local television, discussing issues related to the agency as well as general parenting skills.

Programs I have been involved with:

Mothers and Sons Together * Parenting Class * Dad’s Club * EmPACT * Parents Plus * Healthy Beginnings * FITT (CPS referrals) * IEBP (Behavioral Health referrals) * TCM * Juvenile Hall * Young Parents Program * BCBH Parenting Services
